What is included in the fee? |
| The Anglo Training fee covers enrolment on the programme, the placement, Anglo Training welcome booklet, monitoring and support throughout the placement. We will also make sure the host company provides you with (staff) accommodation and meals whilst on duty. The CIE Cambridge International Examinations Work Experience Certificate is extra. |
What benefits will I have from the programme? |
| This programme will give you the opportunity to live and work in the UK, improve language skills, learn about the hospitality and catering industry and at the same time your accommodation, meals and pocket money is provided. |
What kind of jobs will I do? |
| Most trainees will be working as general assistants. This means you will be working in most areas, from housekeeping to kitchen help as well as waiting at tables. The type of jobs you will be given very much depends on your level of English, attitude and hard work and the requirements of the hotel at any one time. You cannot choose the position. |
Can I choose the city I want to go to? |
| No, you can be placed anywhere in the UK/Ireland. The host companies are generally in smaller towns in rural settings, not in cities. You can indicate an area you would like to go to, like for instance Ireland, Scotland or Southeast of England, but we may not be able to guarantee this. You will be give information about the location, type, etc of your hotel before leaving your country. We do not offer London on this programme. |
I would like to go the same host company or be close to my friend(s). Is that possible? |
| We will try our very best to arrange this, but we cannot guarantee this, as it very much depends on the demands of the host company. If you decide to cancel because you have not been placed with your friends, we will not refund any of your programme fees. |
I want to work in reception - can you find this for me? |
| Reception jobs are usually only given to native English speakers or people who have already lived in the UK/Ireland for a long time. As you will only travel here for a limited period of time, companies are usually not interested in training you up to be a receptionist in this country. |
I am studying tourism and hotel management - will I be shadowing the manager and working in the office? |
| No, all of our Anglo Training placements are hands on, operational jobs. You will not be shadowing the manager and you will not be working in an office. You will be placed in all types of jobs that the company has to offer, so as to teach you all the ins and outs of working in the English/Irish hospitality industry. Working in this industry is hard work. Sometimes you may be working 10 or 12 hours during peak times, but then again you may be working less hours during slow times. It is important is to show enthusiasm and work hard. Progress also depends on your level of English and understanding of the tasks given to you. If you fail to show commitment, companies can very quickly replace you with someone else with the same or better skills! |
Will I live in the company? |
| Some hospitality companies offer in-house accommodation, some have separate staff houses or rent accommodation for you. You will not be staying in a guestroom. You are part of the staff and not a tourist. This also means you are responsible for keeping your own room and all staff quarters clean and tidy. |
What clothes do I need to bring? |
| When we send you the details of the placement, we will indicate the uniform you need to bring. This usually means black trousers, black shoes and white shirt for the men and black skirt, white blouse and black shoes for the ladies. Bring plenty of shirts to last you a week. Don't forget to bring clothes with you for your leisure time and if you have to work in the kitchen. |
How will I be paid and do I have to pay any taxes, etc over that? |
| Most companies pay in monthly arrears and occasionally, in weekly arrears. You will get a gross salary and deductions for your accommodation, meals, taxes, etc are made from your wages (at the discretion of the hotel). |
I want to work in a hotel in London or other big city - can you arrange this for me? |
| No, city hotels usually do not offer accommodation to staff. Most cities have English universities, which means a regular supply of English students looking for jobs. In London, competition for jobs is so high, that most hotels do not work through agencies. |
What happens if I am not happy? |
| You need to contact us as soon as possible. We will discuss the problem with you, if necessary also with the hotel and we will decide what is the best solution for you. Please note that this does not mean that we will automatically move students, as sometimes the reasons for moving are unrealistic. |
What happens if the company is not happy with me? |
| It depends on the reasons why they are not happy with you. If you have been fired because of misconduct (suspected stealing, being drunk on duty, not doing the job properly, etc) we will not find another placement for you and we will ask you to leave the placement. If there are other reasons, we will talk to you and the company and we will decide on the best solution for you. |
What is the difference between Anglo Training and Action for Employment? |
| Both programmes offer hospitality placements. However Action for Employment does not include live in accommodation during the placement. Therefore you will be responsible for locating and arranging your own accommodation during this time. As a consequence we will be able to look for placements in larger towns and cities. The work that you will be doing will however be the same - hospitality work in the service departments of hotels, bars, inns restaurants etc. |
